Summary
Why stomach does not digest itself?
We broken the ice of the classical and fresh question. The stomach digests only food with hard pepsin(protein digestion enzyme) and gastric acid. The mucus layer seems to protect mucous membrane as the barrier. However, how will the gastric acid reach the digesting area through the mucus barrier?
We searched the drama of digestion unfolds on the gastric mucous membrane and using bio-imaging, we were able to record the elaborate dynamics between gastric acid and mucus secretions.
