Summary
This film shows microscopically the activity of cells which replenish bone afresh on the bone surface.
After osteoclasts erode the bone, differentiated osteoblasts deposit fresh layers of the bone to fill up a hole. What substance controls a well-balanced process from bone resorption to bone formation? We have examined an involvement of one of cytokines, TGF-ΐ, as a coupling factor of these events.
In this film you can see the process of remodeling of the bone clearly by a long-term observation (several weeks) under a microscope. We succeeded to film TGF-ΐ as a coupling factor in the living tissue by specific antibodies and a scanning electron microscope for the first time in the world.
