The Beating of the Heart
Year July, 1971
Time 34 min.
Summary Claud Bernard, a French Physiologist of the 19th century, said that nothing is more beautiful than looking at the development of the heart. Life begins and also ends with the beating of the heart.

This film deals with the development of the heart and how its function is maintained throughout one's life. An endoscope shows the relationship of the heart to other organs in our body. The heart sends out blood which carries indispensable materials for the body like oxygen and many kinds of nutrition. Blood reaches organs such as the lung, intestine, and the liver. The heart nourishes these organs and consequently keeps the entire body alive. By concomitant recordings of the contraction and action potential of an individual cardiac cell, we could realize that the integration of synchronized contraction of each heart cells results in the heart beat.
