Summary
Dr. Naoshi Honma, the supervisor of the film, mentioned that this was a real scientific film as well as a medical or biological study report, but neither for propaganda nor for teaching an established fact.
The objective was to establish whether the 3 enterobactreria i.e. Bifidus, Faecalis 3A and Acidophilus defend our body against pathogenic E. coli from infecting intestinal villi or not. To achieve our objective, we developed a new time-lapsed filming technique and experimental procedures including a mixed bacterial infection system at the intestine of a germ-free mouse. We succeeded to record the immune reaction of macrophage adhering to intestinal epithelium, the invading process of E. coli to intestinal villi, and the defense by the three bacteria.
